August is the month when UPLISSA was established, and, as generations continue, we are honored and are still pursuing what the previous members have started.

We unveil the tale of its 47th year anniversary. As we celebrate another year of excellence, we thank the SLIS community for sharing with us this momentous event. We officially present UPLISSA this year: “Humble and PROUD of It.”

The exhibit was officially launched by Ms. Cery Jean Quiambao (President ‘09-’10). After her heartfelt message,  Ms. Harriette Josephine Gutierrez and Ms. Charmine Ann Rondero (Executive Secretary and Internals Chairperson respectively) outlined the upcoming activities. Together with UPLISSA advisers, Prof. Johann Frederick A. Cabbab and Ma’am Christine B. Timoteo, and our  beloved Dean, Prof. Vyva Victoria M. Aguirre, we thank you for continuing in believing and supporting the organization.

Activities for the Month of August:

• Raffle Draw (August 11)
• Book Sale (August 12-15)
• Tutorial Session (Whole month of August)
• LISSA Night (August 29)

The month-long celebration of UPLISSA’s 47th anniversary will officially end on August 29 with the LISSA Night 2009. All UPLISSA Members and Alumni are invited to join the party. Time and venue are to be announced. See you there!

The UP LISSA held the first ever LIS Congress in the Philippines on February 28, 2009 at the UP College of Education Auditorium. Some topics discussed were marketing strategies on school children libraries, blogging in libraries, overview of archives, IT in public libraries, children’s literature in libraries, and licensure of librarians.

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to the following individuals and organizations who supported and participated in the event:
